Backups, Virtual Air-Gaps, and TrueNAS Replication Setup | TrueNAS Tech Talk (T3) E058

Chris and Kris are back on TrueNAS Tech Talk to talk about backups - World Backup Day was March 31st, and it’s time to level up your data protection. They’ll go through the concept of air-gapped systems, how to implement a “virtual air-gap” with TrueNAS, and the components of a solid, resilient backup and replication architecture that you can build yourself. A couple viewer questions round out the mix; and will Chris have to DLSS 5 his life if he loses the bet with Kris? Find out today.

happy backup day everyone.

just noticed the youtube notification, ty for the reminder. just been doing my digital chore, moving stuff to then backup ^^ almost done.

appreciate that air gaps were mentioned. oft times people neglect to mention that.

on a side note, NPM AXIOS got hit recently. so if you use npm, make sure you clean that out if you are affected. just a reminder, auto updating isn’t always great. if you use watchtowerr (fork since the original no longer maintained) or a similar auto updater, make sure to add exceptions, and for those, manual update them, or at minimum use a longer deferal before auto updating (maybe 2-3 weeks?). npm got targeted too often and usually by dependency projects on github via an indirect route.

I am glad that it has been noted that the VM section is lacking. As a home labber this is an important part of my TN setup and I personally think it is more popular feature than it appears.

Anyhow, it is on the wish list for a better GUI  which is all I can ask.

Happy backup day fellas
