COMRESET failed (errno=-32)

Firstly, I am a TrueNAS noob.
I have TrueNAS Scale 24.10 installed on a Supermicro X10DRU-i+ server.
I have 2 SFF-8643 cables connected to the AOC-S3008L-L8e HBA card (in IT mode), which are then connected to a BPN-SAS3-826EL1 backplane.

I use a Samsung SSD as my boot disk.

The drives in the 12 bays are:

  • 5 x HGST HUS724040ALS640
  • 7 x Seagate ST3400755SS SAS drives

Upon boot-up, I see the following errors in the logs:

[ 181.718081] ata1: COMRESET failed (errno=-32)
[ 181.718287] ata3: COMRESET failed (errno=-32)
[ 191.745880] ata3: COMRESET failed (errno=-32)
[ 191.746090] ata2: COMRESET failed (errno=-32)

[12.077866] ata1: limiting SATA link speed to
[12.077980] ata3: limiting SATA link speed to
[12.078093] ata2: limiting SATA link speed to
[22.317867] ata1: limiting SATA link speed to

All the drives are recognized, but I’m stumped as to why these errors appear during boot-up.
Also, why are the errors showing up as ata1, ata2, etc., even though these are SAS drives?

I am finally able to boot into the console where it shows the web interface with the IP address.

Any help to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Can somebody please help me with this issue?
I use the AOC-S3008L-L8e card in IT mode and I can all sas disks on bootup. It looks like Truenas is communicationg with the onboard Sata controller, hence these errors. Truenascale boots from an SSD connected to the onboard SATA port5. Inspite of the errors Truenas finally boots successfully and I can log into the web interface. Any clues as to why I am getting these “COMRESET errors” and “limiting SATA link speed to unknown”? My understanding is that errors are because Truenas is somehow communicating with the onboard SATA controller and expecting for disks. The only disk I have is the SSD Truenascale boot disk connected to the onboard SATA port 5.
