Dataset Allocation vs. Written?

I have a dataset with an allocation of 226GiB but data written of 158GiB.

Presumably, this means that 68GiB is unavailable for use by other datasets, and is included in the overall pool size figure.

Can I change the allocation? Or will TrueNAS revise this, at some time, automatically?

The total allocation includes space used by snapshots, which is most likely what you are seeing.
