This is my first post on this new forum, but have been running Truenas since 2016. Wow how time flies! I’ve made drive upgrades over the years, added some ram, but still have the same MB and the original CPU I started with. Here are my current specs:
Fractal Design Node 804
ASRock C226M WS Micro ATX
Intel Xeon E3-1240 v3
32 GB of ECC RAM
6 x 6TB red drives (raid2z)
2 x 15GB Enterprise SSDs mirrored for boot
what I currently run on it:
one VM that runs docker and a 4 containers
jails:
plex server
tautulli
qbittorrent
and a few other ones…
I was looking into just upgrading the CPU, but it sees my MB is too old and there really aren’t any good upgrade options.
So at this point, should I just get a new case, new MB, and CPU? I believe my pool and boot drives situation is fine, not really looking to upgrade there.
Would greatly appreciate any recommendations or pointers in the right direction. I really don’t have any requirements beyond the following:
- want a strong CPU with room to grow (felt like my current CPU has served me well)
- possibly will look to increase RAM as I’ve been recently getting into VMs
- IPMI would be nice
- I think 6 drives is sufficient. my current pool is around 70% full but I’m already in the process of swapping out all the 6TB for 8TB drives
Again, thanks for the suggestions!
