Why do I see in the Applications => Discover that Home Assistant is Deprecated though it has over 12,000 installs? The App Version is 2026.8.3, so seems up to date.
Something to worry about and moving over to docker then?

No idea about the app but the Home Assistant project makes it quite clear that the only supported way to run HA is on HAOS. Either on a dedicated device or in a VM.
They will not accept issues on Github if you run it in Docker or by any other method.
I’d recommend you do that - create a VM and run HAOS in it. Works great. Updates are a click in HA.

If they depreciated docker as deployment method alltogether switching to a native docker install instead of a truenas app would be useless since in effect they’re both docker…

That was my understanding. When my HomePod died, I decided to go FOSS with my smart home stuff. Although, confusingly, both TrueNAS and HomeAssistant have instructions on how to install it as an app, the best way is through VM.
The only real issue I ran into, because I’m a total dummy, was feeding the Home Assistant install media as a bootable ISO. When it isn’t. You have to spin up the VM first and inject the Home Assistant software into the live environment. There WAS a thread on here that walks you through the process, but I can’t seem to find it now.

+1 for running HAOS as a VM.
I moved from a docker container to HAOS a few months back and never looked back. Upgrades are a lot smoother, and you get the benefit of access to Home Assistant “apps” like Music Assistant and Matter.
Ironically, it still runs Home Assistant as a docker container within the VM, though

That hard constraint of no support for anything but HAOS is not on their website anymore or maybe I hallucinated it in the first place.
Still there are some unsupported features when running in e.g. Docker:
No Updates from the HA UI. No Apps.
And Apps is e.g. Zigbee, Thread border router, …
So yes, best stick to HAOS.

Thanks I will dive into HAOS then. The App version so far has been running fine and updated fine too. It only uses 512MB of memory or so. A VM needs 2GB I see and “confiscates” that from my system

That isn’t how VMs work–they don’t just grab the allocated memory when you power them up. It’s a limit, and works the same way as CPU cores.
Just a question the app in truenas scale is a container yes? The apps run on docker. I haven’t had issues with running the customized container in docker.
Containers remain supported. Containers are not to be confused with core as described in the link below.
