I’m trying to install Rocky Linux 10 on a Mini R machine. I don’t mean a VM. I’m trying to utilize the bare metal and install Linux over the TrueNAS OS. I am unable to get passed the install menu item, however, and it locks up immediately after selecting the install option. Has anyone repurposed the Mini R NAS Appliance for general Linux installation? Any help is appreciated.
Is secure boot turned on?
The hardware is pretty standard and TrueNAS Scale is based on Debian Linux. You shouldn’t have any problems. Have you checked the installer on a different computer?
Secure boot is turned off. I’ve tried doing a remote media mount with the same result. I’ve tried using a USB thumb drive in the usb 2.0 port. I’ve tried different distros. I’ve tried nomodeset to rule out graphical issues. I’ve tried legacy and UEFI. No matter what, after I select install (or boot on a live distro) it just hangs with no more output.
I have tried it on another machine. I’ve been trying different things for several weeks now with no luck.
Have you tried installing TrueNAS Core or TrueNAS Scale? Have you check the IPMI for hardware problems?
We can only go off what you posted to the forum for info. Have you added any hardware to it?
It might be the customized UEFI BIOS iX installed on the Mini R. If you’re sure you won’t go back to TrueNAS, you could reflash the Mini R to a vanilla SuperMicro UEFI BIOS.
