Is Qbittorrent setup w VPN used to avoid open router ports?

I prefer my Homelab setups without open router ports.

I have my home net using inbound Wireguard VPN setup on my OpenWrt router.

No forwarded router ports.

I’m unclear how torrent VPNs are setups these days. I do have a Proton sub, so have access to their VPN.
I assume a Proton VPN would give me a tunnel from a Proton exit node, to my TrueNAS box, bypassing all router config?

Proton allows torrent traffic on their paid accounts, and on their servers that support p2p traffic. Privado vpn came with my usenet account, it works fairly well, but not as fast as SurfShark.
