We have two separated data centers, and have been working to complete our DR setup. So what I am trying to do is to “migrate” snapshot replication between hosts without having to recreate it.
We purchased a NAS specifically earmarked as a DR box to go to our DR data center. We copied all of our user data to it. But we also copied the contents of the backing storage for our Nutanix/Hycu system to it to ship to the DR site, since it seemed better to ship 300TB of data rather than spending multiple months replicating over the internet and never really catching up.
So my plan was to offload the Nutanix dataset from the DR box to the backing storage at the DR site (which has it’s own Hycu NAS), then have the “live” Nutanix dataset from the main site pick up replication without complete replication from scratch.
Does ZFS/TrueNAS look at the replication target and determine that the snapshots are the same, or will it say “these came from a different host”?
