Plex Upgrade to 1.2.16 Leads to "Playback Error" on TV

Hello, I’ve attempted to upgrade my TrueNas Plex to 1.2.16, and get a vague “Playback Error” on my LG WebOS TV when trying to play anything. What’s odd is I can play back on Mac Chrome browser just fine via the Plex UI. Don’t know plex enough to know where to find the logs, etc.

The WebOS apps says there is no update available for the Plex app, and the latest version is from 4/2024, so it seems old.

If I roll the TrueNas Plex version back to 1.1.11, everything works again.

Man, some of the Plex apps on TVs are weird. Does issue persist for all content? Does it behave if you specifically try to playback; SD, HD, 5.1 audio vs stereo, transcoded vs native, subtitles vs no subtitles, and is this local or remote playback.

…I’ve had each of those individually (or in combination) not work on random TVs & they each had a unique fix. I know I’m asking 20 separate questions in 2 lines, but it could help narrow things down a bit.

Edit: for some of these the ‘fix’ was never using the Plex app on the TV & getting some sort of media centre that has better implementation of Plex. ie; older samsung models in my experience.

I spent half of yesterday digging through logs and google, tinkering with this setting and that setting to no avail. Found the debug log overlay settings on TV and found a different codes that led me to a bunch of people griping that Plex on newer TVs has issues, suggesting to never ever upgrade Plex, and how Plex never fixes them.

I may play around with Jellyfin

Same here on a TV and a laptop using the updated Plex on Goldeye 25.10.0.1. No problem, though, on a different Fangtooth 25.4.2 with the updated Plex app. So, there is something about Plex on Goldeye now.
