Hello Guys,
So, i’m new to TrueNAS Scale and i’m bit confused about the VDEV and Width. Can anyone explain it to me without any complexity? Let’s say i need to use 2 VDEV with 8 disks in each VDEV in RAID-Z2. So, what width and VDEV should i select?

Layout Raid-Z2
Width 8
number of VDEVs 2
Check the Review section to see if that looks correct for how you wanted it laid out.
Refer to the documentation or GUI tool tips and post screenshots if you are stuck.
You had too many disks and VDEV for me to try to make a VM with screenshots and test.
Thank you so much dear friend. This width thingy have always confused me.
BTW, is there anyway to check the disk speed on TrueNAS Scale?
Try the resources section and benchmark as a search. That might be what you want.
Otherwise, try watching the pool while doing a lot of transfers
@SmallBarky Created a pool with 2x RAIDZ2 8 wide. But the usable capacity is 165.37TB. As per my calculations, it should be 174TB (14.55TB per disk).
Any idea where the 9TB approx went?
As per 45Drives, i should be having 170TB approx:
You can try playing with the command line tools and try to understand how it comes up with the figures. It is mostly and estimate as it depends on how data is stored, what block sizes the datasets use, compression and block cloning usage. I don’t know how accurate the calculator is, either.
Too complex for me to understand. But seems like that was due to 4K vs 512e.
