Problem permissions

Hi,

Here is the configuration of my home server and its application. After installation, everything was working perfectly, and the 8TB video storage pool with Plex was functioning well. However, I made a mistake with this pool, and everything disappeared (only on this 8TB pool; all other pools are fine).

I updated to TrueNAS Version: 25.10.1 - Goldeye and recreated the 8TB pool (named MEDIAS). I created a subfolder (which opens in Windows after configuring permissions, allowing me to place video files there).

However: I am UNABLE to edit the permissions on “MEDIAS.” This means that under Plex, I cannot see the “MEDIAS” folder and therefore cannot create my libraries.

Question : How can I fix this problem? I want to specify that TrueNAS indicates no errors on this 8TB SSD. In “Datasets,” when I select MEDIAS, the “Edit” button in “Permissions” is grayed out and inaccessible (however, when hovering over it, it indicates “permissions cannot be modified on a root dataset”).

Server Configuration

  • Motherboard: MSI X470 GAMING PRO MAX

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

  • RAM: 32 GB

  • HBA Controller: LSI SAS 93001 6I 16 Ports 12Gbps SATA SAS PCIe 3.0 8X, placed in the first PCIe slot of the motherboard.

  • Available SSDs: All connected to the controller except for the NVMe:

    • 1 × 8 TB SSD

    • 4 × 4 TB SSD

    • 2 × 2 TB SSD

    • 2 × 250 GB SSD

    • 1 × Crucial P3 Plus SSD 500GB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 (up to 4,700 MB/s), CT500P3PSSD8 placed in the M2.1 slot.

  • Power Supply: CORSAIR RM750x Fully Modular ATX Power Supply – ATX 3.1 Compliance – PCIe 5.1 Support – Cybenetics Gold Efficiency – Native 12V Connector – 2x6, 750 watts.

Disk Configuration

A. System Disks (Boot)

  • Disks: 2 × 250 GB SSD

  • Configuration: MIRROR (RAID 1)

  • Usage: Installation of TrueNAS.

B. Sensitive Files (Documents, Photos, Backups)

  • Disks: 4 × 4 TB SSD

  • Configuration: RAIDZ2 (Equivalent to RAID 6)

  • Usable Space: ~8 TB (approximately, slightly less with formatting).

C. General Storage / Projects

  • Disks: 2 × 2 TB SSD

  • Configuration: MIRROR (RAID 1)

  • Usable Space: ~2 TB.

D. Video Storage (Movies, Series - Non-Critical Data)

  • Disk: 1 × 8 TB SSD

  • Configuration: STRIPE (Single Disk)

  • Usable Space: 8 TB.

E. NVMe

  • Disk: 1 × 500 GB Crucial P3 Plus (M.2)

  • Usage: APPLICATION POOL (APPS / DOCKER)

  • Reason: Do not use it for cache (L2ARC) as with 32 GB of RAM, it would be useless and could even slow down the system.

Applications

  • Installation of applications (Plex, file managers, Pi-Hole, Home Assistant) on this fast NVMe:

    • Ultra-fast library browsing (Plex movie posters, databases).

    • If the disk fails, I only lose the application configurations.

I rewrite this because everything was working perfectly before my mistake! Please help me! :slight_smile:

Voici, ci-dessous, la configuration de mon serveur maison et de son application, après installation tout fonctionnait très bien, le pool (8to -stockage video avec Plex) fonctionnait parfaitement….

Sauf que j’ai fait une mauvaise manip sur ce pool et tout à disparu (seulement sur ce 8to-tout les autres pool sont OK).

J’ai donc mis à jour TrueNASS Version: 25.10.1 - Goldeye .

Refait le pool du 8To (nommé MEDIAS), créer un sous dossier1 (celui-ci après config des permissions s’ouvre sous windows et je peux y placer des fichiers vidéos.

PAR CONTRE:IMPOSSIBLE d’éditer les permissions sur «MEDIAS »

Ce qui fait que sous Plex impossible de voir le dossier « MEDIAS » et donc de créer mes bibliothèques.

QUESTION : Comment corriger ce problème, je précise que TrueNAS m’indique aucune erreur sur ce ssd (8 To).

Dans « Datasets » lorsque je sélectionne MEDIAS, le bouton « Edit » dans « Permissions » est grisé et non accessible (par contre si je passe le pointeur dessus il indique (permissions cannot be modified an a root dataset)

  • Disque : 1 × 8 TB SSD

  • Espace utile : 8 To.

E. un NVMe

  • Disque : 1 × 500 GB Crucial P3 Plus (M.2)

  • Usage : POOL D’APPLICATIONS (APPS / DOCKER)

  • Pourquoi ? Ne l’utilisez pas pour le cache (L2ARC), car avec 32 Go de RAM, cela ne servira à rien et pourrait même ralentir le système.

  • Installation des applications (Plex, gestionnaires de fichiers, Pi-Hole, Home Assistant) sur ce NVMe rapide.

    • Navigation des bibliothèques ultra-rapide (affiches de films Plex, bases de données).

    • Si le disque rend l’âme, je perd que la configuration des applications.

    • Je le re-écrit tout fonctionnait parfaitement avant ma c…… de manip !

On A,B,C,D & E could you add the pool names to thhe description titles? It’s easier to follow if you have the pool names as we compare that to the GUI or info from the command line for diag.
