Hi All,
I have TrueNAS-13.0-U6.4 running perfectly, and am totally happy with it. It’s in a Dell T 340, with all the drives used. I want to play with jails/VMs, but have don’t want to use the existing disk storage. I want to add a SATA controller with just 2 ports add a couple of SSDs internally and use that to create a pool and play with the VMs/Jails.
I only have a PCIE 2.0 x1 slot spare, but performance isn’t something I care about for this.
Can anyone recommend a simple small SATA controller that works with Trunas and won’t cause any problems.
I love my little SAN
Thanks
If this is just for experimental use and not long-term production use (ie. just to play around with), you can probably just use any controller.
If you want something reliable for production use (ie. you will cry if the pool fails and lose your data), then you will want to get an HBA instead.
I had a few problems with the controller, posted a question, but for those of you in a similar position, here’s the reply that helped / solved the problem

I think that the only pci chipset I’ve not had wierd problems with use the ASM chips. I think the card you spec’d uses JMicron. Here in US, the ASM1064 2 port cards are about the same price as the one you spec’d. No idea if chipset compatibility is the issue. Since Core is FreeBSD-based, I recommend looking at the FreeBSD compatibility data for hardware. Good luck.
