Seagate Drive Label

Hello Guys,

I’ve been using Seagate Drives since a long time including Barracuda, IronWolf and EXOS. All of these drives have colorful label. The replacement drives received by Seagate usually comes with white label with the indication “ Recertified” or “Factory Recertified”. The OEM drives from Dell/HP also comes with white label.

Recently, I purchased a EXOS X24 16TB from a local vendor that was sealed but i was quite surprised to see that it has pure white label with the black markings. The DOM was 04JUL2025 and upon checking it was pre-formatted to 4Kn. Any idea if this drive is genuine? Is this how Seagate is shipping their new drives? I can attach photo as soon as possible.

Thanks

What does the Seagate warranty website have to say about the serial number?

It does show warranty.

If it shows the full warranty, you should be good.

Out of curiosity, does the drive label serial number match the SMART data serial number? That is the only other thing I’d check.

Yeah, that matches. I’ll upload a picture soon.

Okay, i was going to upload a picture today but i saw something. Seems like these drives are for OEM which i suspected previously. So all sorted.

Those can sometimes be troublesome during warranty claims. Hopefully the place you bought them from will honour the warranty if Seagate says no (because they were initially sold to an OEM and then resold).

Yes, aware of that. Are OEM drives safe to use? It has same firmware number.
