So i just had my first drive failure on a barracuda 1tb of which i have 4(now 3 ig), 113 errors, so i swapped it out with a 4tb wd red but now it keeps resilvering, it just finished the second attempt and is now running a third. I really dont want my nas to die on me as I have all of my photos on this thing, can anyone please help me diagnose this thing? Thank you.
Also i run truenas scale, with a raid z2
What is the model of the WD Red. Look it up and see if it is SMR instead of CMR.

Lets see what we’re working with. If you don’t have a HBA card, you can skip the last three. Forgot to ask what version of TrueNAS?

this good?
Just let it do the resilvering thing for now and we will see if any other users post advice. It is good that you have Raid-Z2
Bad news is the Barracuda drives are SMR type.
data sheet showed a different model from what I looked at on Seagate, Argh.
nevermind
that’s kinda funny in a way, i’ve had slow drives thinking they’re the fast ones, and the first time i get one of the fast ones fir real the slow ones slow it down lol
the only 1tb drive on that list is the st1000dm014, which is smr, but i have the st1000dm010, which Seagate advertises as cmr, are you sure the drives i have are smr?
Good thing I linked the PDF. I think you are fine on the drives then. I will go back and edit that former post.
Might get lucky and have another poster. Not sure why you have resilver troubles in this case.
whey! it’s done! thanks m8!(for those having the same problem/fear just waiting for the resilvers to stop worked eventually and i have all 4 drives online)
You might want to run SMART Long tests on your drives and see if you have any hints at failing ones. NAS type hard drives may be a better choice. The firmware is different in how they handle errors.
I am glad you are back to normal running though with minimal work.
thank you so much for the help! i’ll do that now!
