Wow, how old this “new” HBA I purchased?

Need some help on the update process.

I believe I have to copy the .bin into TrueNAS first. I am not sure how to do it via GUI or shell.

Will TrueNAS detect an USB drive which I can cd to and kick off the flash process? This might be the way to go.

The sas3flash output shown an “SAS3008(C0) controler”. Which firmware should I use? I guess should be SAS9300_8i_IT.bin since the eBay seller call it a “9300-8I 12Gbps HBA”

Is there a rollback process (in case I made a mistake)?

Appreciate the help in advance.

Hopefully you didn’t purchased it “new” but refurbished from a data centre, at refurbished price.

Do not update through TrueNAS. Put the firmware and sas3flash.efi utility on a FAT32-formatted USB thumbdrive, boot to the UEFI shell and update from there.

:+1:

@etorix you mean I boot into the MoBo BIOS’s EUFI shell?

Here is what I think I need to do after reading the SAS3Flash Utility Quick Reference Guide.

sas3flash -ufirmware oldfirmware.bin # this should save a copy of the current firmware to the USB drive

sas3flash -f SAS9300_8i_IT.bin

sas3flash -c 0 -reset # not sure I have the parameter order correct or not

I might do another sas3flash -list to confirm the firmware version

Reboot back to TrueNAS and confirm all Pool status.

p.s. the eBay seller DID say the card is “new”

New for resale

Like a "new, previously loved car”. Is ok, used is 100% acceptable for HBA’s

NBA flashed successfully, current sas3flash -list output below. I appreciate everyone’s assistance. This is the best support forum I encountered so far. Thank you very much again.
