TrueNAS 26.0.0-BETA.3 is Now Available!

When we changed the cadence, we kept the 26 name. The schedule that emerged put the release much later than the original 26.04 plan, and that probably deserved a second look earlier than it got one. This thread prompted us to review it, and we’ve made the call.
Thank you to everyone who raised it.

Called it!

Thank Kris, for the clarity. Can you please also look in documentation part? I think lot of us will be appreciated if will be something like Change log confirmed by Your Developer team where will be stated/ confirmed what will be added in the major releases and when and what not. I know that after release is there, but is same for the Early adopter or RC? Maybe I don’t see for it on right places.

Indeed, and sorry to raise my attention here. Now in these days of AI storage apocalypse we need this more as is our data valuable.

We publish changelogs for every release on the day of release whether it is a BETA, RC or .X release, and tickets prior to release can be tracked in Jira. You will find notable changes list for each release, the change log, component versions & ZFS feature flag info.

Example for 26 which will update to 27 when the RC.1 launches next week.

Hello,

I am following the development of TrueNAS SCALE 26, particularly its support for AMD systems using the JMicron JMB585 SATA controller.

Currently, TrueNAS SCALE 26.0.0-BETA.3 uses Linux 6.18.42. There is an upstream Linux kernel fix related to data corruption issues affecting PCIe/SATA devices on certain AMD platforms:

x86/PCI: Disable enhanced atomics on AMD NBIO 7.7 and 7.11

Upstream commit:
4fde4482

This fix disables Enhanced PCIe Atomics on AMD NBIO 7.7 and 7.11. It is relevant to platforms such as Phoenix/Hawk Point, which are used by the Minisforum N5 Air.

I would like to ask:

  1. When is the next TrueNAS SCALE 26 release expected after 26.0.0-BETA.3?

  2. Which exact Linux kernel version is planned for that release?

  3. Is the next release expected to use Linux 6.18.55 or later?

  4. More importantly, can you confirm whether the kernel used by that release will include the upstream commit:
    4fde4482 – x86/PCI: Disable enhanced atomics on AMD NBIO 7.7 and 7.11
or an equivalent backport of this fix?

  5. If it is not included yet, is it planned to be included before the final stable release of TrueNAS SCALE 26?

Confirmation of point 4 is particularly important for systems such as the Minisforum N5 Air, which uses an AMD Phoenix/Hawk Point platform together with a JMicron JMB585 SATA controller.

I am not only interested in whether the kernel is a 6.18.x version; I would specifically like to confirm that this AMD NBIO Enhanced Atomics fix is actually included.

Thank you.

We just updated to 6.18.52 before the 27-RC1 next week:

Thank you for confirming that the upcoming release will be updated to Linux 6.18.52.

Since the upstream fix:

“x86/PCI: Disable enhanced atomics on AMD NBIO 7.7 and 7.11”

Commit: “4fde4482”

was merged after the 6.18.52 kernel release, could you confirm whether TrueNAS plans to backport this specific fix manually to the 6.18.52 kernel, or apply an equivalent patch?

This is particularly important for systems using AMD Phoenix/Hawk Point (NBIO 7.7) with JMicron JMB585 SATA controllers, such as the Minisforum N5 Air, because the fix addresses the underlying AMD PCIe Enhanced Atomics issue associated with potential data corruption when 64-bit DMA is used.

If it will not be backported to 6.18.52, do you expect it to be included in a subsequent TrueNAS release using a newer 6.18.x kernel?

Thanks!

Thank You, is at least all major point on one place. Kernel is important as we know about the integrations. Is possible any visibility of the dependencies to the release of the Docker and App list?

I assume you release the Application list based on internal testing for each release. Or is only sure that is supported in current version of Docker?

The apps catalog is independent of the release, you can take a look at the GitHub of you’d like more info, this is also where requests for apps or app PRs should be created if you’d like to contribute:

They update the kernel whenever they do releases, don’t know for sure if Release will update the LTS kernel but I’m assuming they should, each beta updated the kernel

Yes, but I’ve seen that they are currently updating to version 6.18.52, whereas the fix is in version 6.18.55

That alone should be a reason NOT to run ZFS on the device. JMicron SATA controllers are known to be problematic, irrespective of the CPU (Intel as well) and presumably of any fix.

And now officially announced: TrueNAS 27 is Here!

Dear Mark,

I have a request concerning the blog article “TrueNAS 27 RC.1: The Feature Set”. In that blog article it reads:

Spotlight Search requires TrueNAS Connect or an Enterprise license

Really only TrueNAS Connect? Or TrueNAS Connect Plus? Last time I installed the beta Spotlight search didn’t work. It took me quite a while of testing and research to find out that Spotlight search in fact required TrueNAS Connect Plus. Quite a bummer. Have you dropped the requirements now?

Can you clarify?

Best regards
Ture

Please comment on that Blog thread… we can respond and collect all the answers in one place.

Dear Captain_Morgan,

I would have - but it wasn’t possible to comment on the Blog thread. At least I don’t see a reply button. So, will you follow up on the contents of my question?

Best
Ture

I’m in the process of updating docs related to this as we speak. Spotlight should be enabled on any TrueNAS Connect-enabled system, as long as TrueSearch is also enabled. There are file limit differences related to TrueSearch depending on license type, but the base feature should be available on Foundation.

|Edition | TrueNAS Connect | Maximum Indexed Files |
| ________________ | _______________________________ | _____________________ |
|Community Edition | Connected, Foundation plan | 1,000,000 |
|Community Edition | Connected, Plus plan | 10,000,000 |
|Community Edition | Not connected | TrueSearch is not available without a TrueSearch license key. |
|Enterprise | Any | No limit. The license must include TrueSearch. |
