Overall Fangtooth as an RC is not that bad. I had two major sticking points:
- Time Machine backups are broken for me (see my other post)
- Pretty sure that if you rotate the SSL cert in an automated way after manually installing it the first time, TrueNAS web ui over SSL will break after the original SSL cert expires (even though it has since been replaced). I have not looked into this yet.
- Virtualisation changes meant recreating my VMs but using the existing zvols. Here there were traps-a-plenty. I welcome the new virtualisation though!
The traps:
- The UI is new so there are lots of things that are not visible. For example you cannot see which of the zvols for a VM is the boot disk.
- If you want to remove a zvol from a VM the button is marked “delete”: this seems scary. Is the zvol deleted, or removed/unlinked from the VM? I did not dare to find out.
- My Fedora VM did not boot at all: “volume group fedora not found”. Booting to Rescue mode and running “dracut -f --generate-all” fixed it. Also it somehow found an old network config and uses that (wrong static ip).
