What is the "best" way to add osqueryd to the base OS?

Hi,

First of all, thanks to all the devs for this NAS distribution.

I would like to install osqueryd at the OS level of TrueNAS SCALE. Is this something that someone else has done in a semi-blessed-by-the-devs-manner, do I “roll my own” with the warts this results in, or is there a feature request for this already and I should just “wait for it”?

(I did a search through the forum, and saw a number of responses to people wanting to install software via apt, and understand that this is not something that’s typically wanted.)

Kind regards,

Tor

TrueNAS is intended to be an appliance i.e. operating system is NOT extensible.

It is possible to put TrueNAS into development mode and add such things with apt however this is not recommended and the install will be overwritten when you do a TrueNAS upgrade.

However you should be able to run osqueryi from a user directory and it can be downloaded from here.

Hi there; thanks for this.

I will then be rolling my own which is just fine . I’ll be careful!

Kind regards,

Tor
