When you realize your test box is now production

Just a quickie about a test box I was using to get comforable with Scale before I migrated off core. It was a recycled desktop build, maybe 3 years old, so not horrible. All solid state storage, just not much of it. A few months go by and I’m leaning on it for NPM and some other daily utilities, so I figure, why not throw Plex at it too? Then I decided to throw some transcoding hardware at it and that’s when trouble hit. An intel A310 that doesn’t even need external power.

Now it freezes after a few hours. The transcoding card is passed through and runs well, but the 3rd ethernet port onboard the motherboard doesn’t light up anymore. Pulled the A310 card this morning after it froze again overnight and the ethernet light is still off. I was about to say fts and shut it down but then I realized the test box is production now, Homelab problems. I’m trying a new power supply tonight and may end up rebuilding it.

I also wished Docker apps were more portable and self-contained, like you just drag and drop the folder that contains it onto another server and it runs. Heard some rumors about doing it the Compose way with common folders addressing that. I dunno.
