A simpler approach is to fix the bug ;), but @zoom 's method is a great technique too.
Yup, much easier and better solution. I would have gone this way, if I was aware of it before. People might still need to check/fix their VM disk storage (ZVol), but we can finally enjoy our VMs again.
Until next time ix releases any new updates at least,
I don’t even need to wait that long . I am still troubleshooting a strange SMB speed issue in 25.04.2. I will create a new topic for that when I gather more data.
So far, with 25.04, there was:
- Completely redesigned VM back-end for the worse, caused by poor management decision.
- Reverted all that back with a snap of fingers. Provided some instructions how to get VMs working.
- I had to find a hack, because I was unable to roll-back the TrueNAS instance.
- And now, when I though everything was fixed, I noticed that SMB transfer speed to the server is slower in some cases.
For me, this has been by far the worst release in years. I am not sure what is going on, but I don’t trust iX the way I used to. Fortunetely, my data is still intact and that is most important. Proxmox just released version 9.0 - maybe it’s time to move VMs (and TrueNAS as a VM) over there.
Yea, I think I spoke too soon too. The patch worked for me to get my VM’s displayed, but I am also running into several new, strange issues now which I’ll have to troubleshoot later.
