To move to SCALE
For the time being create a standard jail with a supported release (13.4) from the UI, then use one of @victor’s great collection of scripts.
Although we have had a few comments by iX staff pointing to future releases, mainly for maintainment purposes.
Wait, really? Is there an official iXsystems communication around EOL that I missed? I am surprised because they still treat it like a first class citizen on their landing page.
In a retirement home, rather. There will be no future development of features and if there will ever be a release on a newer version of FreeBSD is at least improbable.
They repeatedly and publicly said so. “The future is SCALE”. Because “Linux”. (the last sentence mine)

Then you should be using TrueNAS Scale.
CORE is effectively EOL and only receiving security fixes.
Fairly accurate.
Is migrating to scale the answer for a casual (noob) user who just wants a NAS running plex and nextcloud? (and maybe later would like to use it as an NVR for security cameras)
I set up this server 4 years ago and haven’t really had time for maintenance for the past 2 years.
Should I just leave it alone if my core use is still working?
Yes.
(Blah blah blah)
Also yes. 20 character limit is a joke.
That 20 character requirement is indeed lame. Updated it so you can respond with “yes” or “no” now properly.
Hooray : )
So there’s still progress coming out of a thread about CORE…
(working on my Spin Doctor masterclass)
At this very moment you can update to TrueNAS CORE 13.3 by downloading the manual update file from:
Then update your jails to FreeBSD 13.4 and you have another couple of months good to go.
Long term support of CORE is as far as I know terminated.
But that gives you some more time to ponder if you want to migrate to SCALE or a different solution altogether.
Status today:
TrueNAS CORE 13.3 - supported
Jails on either FreeBSD 13.3 or 13.4 - supported
HTH,
Patrick
Hello first Thank you.
But question. I have updated to TrueNAS-13.3-RELEASE and updated my jail to 13.4 but when I try to add plex it still says Error: 13.2-RELEASE was not found!
You can try
or you can start planning the migration to TrueNAS Scale.
The plugin is broken and not supported any longer.
You should create a 13.4 base jail and use the script provided by @victor:
HTH,
Patrick
Not only is that plugin unsupported, all plugins are unsupported. If you want a plugin-like experience, you should have moved to SCALE a year or more ago. Otherwise, you can install software in a jail yourself, either manually or using a script as Patrick mentions.
Upgraded to Scale.
Now working a different issue with apps.
