Correct way to increase the capacity of an existing pool

I prefer “broken by design.”

I wasn’t aware that I was kind of kicking the hornet’s nest - sorry for that.
I’ve read the thread you linked and tend to think it’s good that the autoexpand is off to get rid of edge cases
But it’d be even better if it were turned off and wouldn’t make newbies assume it’s there and working.
Turning it on could raise a stern warning regarding unwanted consequences and then support could reply to people using autoexpand=on “Told you so…”.
Well, it is as it is and I’m a bit more wise regarding this feature thanks to you :hugs:

Hi,

just migrated from core to scale. Went the classic way of expanding zpool by replacing old 5tb disks with 8tb ones. Now I´m also running into the extension issue. The autoexpand attribute is set on the pool ofc.

After reading this, I hit the “expand” button in gui. While writing this, the space is expanded…but took me two tries and about 5 minutes after the second hitting “expand”
