Fangtooth Unifies the TrueNAS Community Editions

Ie, you’re already a fork of the kernel :wink:

We’ve done this since the very beginning (Angelfish).

Yep, even back in CORE days we ran a fork of FreeBSD as well. Neither environment was suitable “out of box” for a TrueNAS base. Just different set of fork patches in the end…

Well, if you really want the superior container technology you should switch to an illumos distro. (-;

Quite the challenge. Proper :nerd_face: stuff. Love it but will stick to simpler fare :sweat_smile:

Wait what? Am I reading this right or am I going insane and losing my screws? ZFS (which itself is already a filesystem) is relying on a Linux-only filesystem? Which one?

“…more open than…”

Even with that part, what follows still doesn’t compute… at least to me. Why would ZFS rely on ANY other filesystem at all?

Said another way: ZFS is not so restrictive that a company, offering it as a storage solution, is locked in to any OS. (Unlike other Linux-only filesystems.)

Well I voted internally - but that didn’t get you the cash. Sorry about that, but my offer was reasonable :slight_smile:

Have you had any issues with Fangtooth?

I have not yet done any testing with Fangtooth. I hope to be able to play with it this coming weekend, using my recently replaced NAS platform. I will be sure to share my results.
