Migrating AFP share to SMB

I experienced your ‘2NKQVL~P’ name mangling issue on Scale. I don’t know your truenas version but I imagine the fix is similar. In your smb share Advanced settings, look for a setting like “Use Apple-style character encoding”, or “Apple Character Compatibility”, or something similar. If it’s greyed out, change Purpose to “No presets”, then enable the Apple-style character encoding. Don’t forget to hit Save. I had to stop and restart the smb service to make it take effect. That should fix it.

I haven’t made any such changes. I merely upgraded the OS. Please consider the possibility that EE made some changes on its own, just as Dragonfish was not happy with SMB Aux parameters that CORE happily ignored. The SMB options for the dataset feature both the AFP Legacy check box and the Apple Character compatibility checkboxes (both unset).
