If it has a cache it’s usually a RAID chipset. Using LSI’s passthrough (IT) firmware should mean it will not use the cache.
Supermicro lists a LSI 3008 controller. As for this cache, we can only hope that a SAS expert passes by and comments.

I have not actually run speed tests (I wouldn’t even know how to). When set up as 2 way mirrors and using VMs I could not tell any issue with responsiveness, but I imagine anecdotal “evidence” is somewhat unconvincing. No crashes or drive drops though, with the server online for 4 weeks at a time.
