[Poll] Home TrueNAS Systems

NAS1 (Core) for data/home directories (4x 1TB SATA 10K 3.5in drives)
NAS2 (Core) for media server (4x 10TB SAS 7.2K 3.5in drives)

  • Upgraded from original 2TB SATA drives to 8TB SATA drives to its current SAS drives

Used to have NAS3 as a replica of NAS1, but it could no longer upgrade because of the age of the hardware so it was turned off over 2 years ago.

Only running multiple NAS because of disk sizes at the time. These systems are 6 years old running Intel Xeon E3-1220L V2 as 1U servers with 4x 3.5in hot swap drive bays. They are 1U Supermicro frankensteins, but rock solid.

Looking to consolidated in the future with a single server with some version of Jonsbro case and an mATX Ryzen motherboard. Just wish I could find a cost friendly case with redundant power supplies. Also looking at reducing power footprint as energy costs keep soaring. Still gathering parts and will plan migration next year to TrueNAS Scale with 8x 16TB SAS drives or maybe larger. Hopefully that will last another 6+ years.
