Yes, in this thread. Again, sorry if I don’t believe one or the other.
Of CORE.
Enterprise does not use CORE Jails or VMs, but they are using the docker style container support of SCALE.
And those requiring k3s support will get it via a Sandbox.
Sorry, but you’re just not making a coherent point. …bring docker, ansible, podman, nomad, etc to CORE and go after an expanded market instead of changing gears entirely to go after that market.
Docker/podman and Kubernetes are Linux technologies, for sharing the running Linux kernel in a container.
You’re basically advocating for bringing the Linux kernel to core.
Which is what Ix did. And called it scale.
Not really? They went to Linux.
On tapatalk forums you could make any user your “foe” or “friend”
Is there a similar option for discourse?
Docker and podman work in BSD. So what’s your point?
That’s one perspective
Another is that CORE is BSD + Middleware + GUI
The middleware and GUI was the same (initially…ish), so they swapped out the foundation
Believe it. With perhaps a dash of “BSD was requiring too much maintenance”
No BSD uses a Linux kernel or systemd. You can run Linux inside BSD. You can also run Linux binaries inside BSD as well.
Alternative:
Big enterprises do not use jails or containers: Pure storage on storage servers.
Small-and-Medium-Businesses may use Docker containers on their storage, but lack the IT expertise to leverage BSD jails.
Assuming that’s true, it sounds awfully heavy to maintain.
And, if the customer wants Linux you give him Linux.
That being said there could totally be more to the story that iX did not share. Again, I’m not interested in the drama… the community expressed its opinion multiple times starting from years ago.
If you want to hunt for clues on the posts, or have questions to iX, please be our guest.
Anyway, this has been covered so many times. This time there were a few new juicy quotes owing to the Electric Eel app transition.
Scale has now been out for nearly 4 years. It’s happened…
Let’s not get another thread locked.
Running linux binaries (I did this before I “took a break from maintaining my own servers”).
…I will stop asking questions.
see ya around
Don’t take it the wrong way.
I agree with pretty much everything you are saying.
As most of us likely do.
No, it’s not what you said. It’s just that I refuse the drink the Kool Aid (or it could be the questions I’m asking) and that obviously rubs people the wrong way. I’ll step aside.
Not really? Point is, you are asking us for answers we can’t give you, not being iX. We are telling you what we have been told.
I’m less sanguine. I mostly trust what they say about the present state of things, and largely trust what they say about their reasons for doing things. But what’s going to happen in the future? Not a chance–too many broken promises.
