I can’t see any issues with these drives based on a quick review. No reallocated sectors, few CRC and other errors all of which are old.

I would recommend that you schedule a SMART short test weekly and a SMART Long test quarterly or monthly (and these can run on all disks at the same time).

I also recommend that you implement @joeschmuck’s Multi-Report script.

Thank you friend. Can it ve something else, like the power supply, cables or maybe the connectors on the case where the drives slide in?

I sometimes get errors the ups, thar recover quick.

Summary
The following alert has been cleared: UPS ups is on battery power.

UPS Statistics: 'ups'

Statistics recovered:

1) Battery charge (percent)
    battery.charge: 100

2) Battery level remaining (percent) when UPS switches to Low Battery (LB)
    battery.charge.low: 20

3) Battery runtime (seconds)
    battery.runtime: 2250

No, I use the 4 sata2 ports for the 4 drive

I use the 4 drives in the 4 sata 2. The 2 sata 3 are free. The boot pool, i have in on a nvmi in a enclosure connected to the internal usb3 port.

I’m on Dragonfish-24.04.2.5

I do have, the one I made not long when i updated the os.

I like this idea, shoud i get 2 and mirror them? How easy is to move the apps to the new ssd pool?

I’m sure that sata 2 its ok fot the mechanical drive, I do have a IBM HBA/LSI SAS2 6 Gigabit pci card that i dont use, if this is the problem, i could use the pci card .
The case its a chep Eolize SVD-NC11-4 Mini ITX, I think was 120€ with the PSU 250W 80 plus bronze includes.
Fot the cables I bouth Corsair Premium Sleeved SATA 6Gbps 30cm, they were expensive.

Possibly - but I suspect that these would likely show up as CRC errors, and you don’t seem to having frequent enough problems and you are using quality cables and a PSU that should easily be big enough.

If you have a UPS and have a short power brownout or interruption, the UPS should be continuing to provide good quality power to the server - that is its purpose.

It is possible that if the UPS isn’t doing its job correctly that my create these symptoms, but unless you can correlate disk errors to UPS cutting in, then it could easily be something else.

I install the multi report and the basic configuration, email and path and look great, I got the inicial tests show smart test results pass on all drives but last test age show different some yellow, i guess because i run the test different days.

A bit scarry receiving every day emais starting warning, but…

This script doesn’t actually run any test, but just email the smart data right?

I have to schedule a short test weekly ang long monthly.

I set the cron for the script as every day, is point to have this run daily if the smart runs weekly and monthly?

Yes you need to schedule the smart tests weekly and monthly separately, and run this script daily.

Once you are comfortable with it you can get it to email you once a week and also if there is anything going wrong.

There are tons of settings - and one of them is how long between SMART tests.

This topic has been resolved now. I just have to figure out how to run the cron for long smart every sunday once a month. i tried few things I found on the forum, no vail. For now I set every 1 of every month, I dont like it much, because may coincide with the scrub task that I it runs every sunday 12:00AM with a Threshold Days 35 days.

Thank you very much @Farout , @Protopia and @etorix for your help and patience and time.

Run the long SMART on Saturday 12:00am with 35 day threshold?

No, there is no threshold on smart, I run the scrub task sunday at 12 AM with a 35 day threshold.
I have the multi-report/multi_report.sh everyday at 2:00 AM
I have Short Smart test - at 02:00, only on Monday (weekly)
I have Long Smart Disk - at 01:00, on day 28 of the month

Hi guys, it happened again, since November, no problem with the pool or drives, I had installed Multi-Report and so far, no problem. Few days ago I got another warning email that the pool was degraded, this time disc sdc and sdd IO errors, last time was sda and sdb, I know this drive name can change between the drive, but I have checked the serial number and they not the same.

I had to turn off, reconnect all the cables on the back of the each of the 4 hot swap connectors, turn it back on follow again all this steps and got it back to work. It’s been a week and so far ok.

But this time I got one of the drive sbc with a Pending Sector Error. I did run long smart test on every drive, 3 times during 3 days on the sdc and it passes the tests. But now I get every few hours an alert that this drive has a pending error on the log.

I don’t know if the drive is bad, if the connectors on the case, or because I have the nas on the desk and maybe movements ot vibrations affect it, but the drives have only 3 years and not that much use really, backup nextcloud, and plex really.

Question, is there any way of clearing this error o relocate this sector. The drives are WD40EFZX. I’m thinking to get one drive to have on stand by, but I don’t know if to get segate or wd again. I have this kind or errors basically after one year of use, usually turn it off removing the drive and reconnect them and then turn it back on clear the errors.

Critical

Device: /dev/sdc [SAT], 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors.

I´m thinking to remove the hot swap UNas connectors and connect the sata and power directly to the drive for a period of time, just to confirm the problem are not the bays, or move the nas from the desk.

This is an internal error of the drive; moving the drive around will not help.

I know this pending error is drive related. But this happend after the las io errors. Every six month more or less i used to get io error on 2 deives, usually sda and sdb.

The error usually would be clear by power cycle or removeing and reinserting rhe drive . This time I got this pending sector, althow the drive is passing the smart test.

I was saying to move things around because I belive this IO errors are triggered by something else, I dont think the drive are the culpid.

Can I relocate this drive I know in windows you run a chkdsk an will relocate the sector.

If I need to change the drive, should I go with WD again or change to Segate. I read the Segate support support is bad and they fail more than WD. Toshiba also kook good, peopleday they ladt longer.
