Truenas Scale doesn't see HDDs, only sees boot SSD

Aren’t you logged into the TrueNAS web UI via the laptop?

ok this is stupid. I had to make a new account because I reached my post limit. Anyway, yes, here is the lsblk output. Sorry I wasn’t thinking about using the shell here.

NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
sda 8:0 0 1.8T 0 disk
sdb 8:16 0 223.6G 0 disk

├─sdb3 8:19 0 207.1G 0 part
└─sdb4 8:20 0 16G 0 part

sdc 8:32 0 1.8T 0 disk
sdd 8:48 0 1.8T 0 disk

sdg 8:96 1 0B 0 disk
sdh 8:112 1 0B 0 disk
sdi 8:128 1 0B 0 disk

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY FRIEND @Bezaliel?!?!?! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Can you retry the command with these flags?

lsblk -o name,serial,type,size,fstype,partuuid

Make sure you put your output inside three backticks, like this:
```
stuff goes in here
```

Alrighty. I’m on my third account now. The first one got stomped for too many posts. Second got suspended probably because of the copy paste being too fast and seeming like a bot. Lets see if I can continue on this one. How does a person get help if they’re limited in the number of posts they can make?

Aren’t Seagate Barracuda likely to be SMR drives. That shouldn’t effect them appearing or not - but will likley have a long term effect (bad)

A few things:

  1. Exactly what version of SCALE are you running. Not telling us allows us to make assumptions.
  2. Have you tried a different version of SCALE?
  3. Post the output of midclt call disk.query | jq and this will tell us if TrueNAS actually does see the drives and it’s interface.
  4. It looks like based on your posting above, your drives are recognized by TrueNAS. Specifically sda, sdc, sdd, sde.
  5. What makes you say the drives are not recognized. We need to start over with the basics. Provide screen captures and describe it. Maybe you are not configuring TrueNAS properly.

As for getting data off your system:

  1. Use the TrueNAS GUI Shell to enter your commands.
  2. Copy and paste out of the Shell into a forum post.
  3. When pasting, select the </> at the top of the editing window and then paste into that. This preserves the formatting which can be critical.

Yep they are smr… https://www.seagate.co.th/products/cmr-smr-list/

So. Now that I can reply again, I’m happy to report that the issue has been solved. I’m not really sure how. As I was looking at my Scale Dashboard, I saw the button to check for updates. I clicked on it, and there was an update from 2.1 to 2.2, so I installed that and boom. All my drives were listed under the Storage>Disks menu.

So now I have that solved, I don’t know how to change this thread to solved, but now I’m having a heckuva time setting up Plex server, but I’ll start a new thread for that. Thank you to everyone who tried to help on this one.

Hi @Bezaliel and welcome to the forums.

Just for info I have closed your two duplicate accounts as it seems they were only created to get around hitting your post limit in quick succession. Im going to up your newbie status which should allow you to post more often without this issue arising again. If it does however please let us know and give us time to address the issue and try to avoid creating duplicate accounts to get around the issue.

Enjoy your time here.
