2 TRUENAS machines on same network - 2nd machine no IP assignment

I have 2 truenas machines, currently connected to the same network for the first time. 1st machine was a test unit, Morphine M6 N200. I set it up and used it successfully so I decided to move my main machine (Dell 3620) over to TRUENAS. Disconnected the first machine, second machine setup and working for 2+ weeks on 24.10. Tonight I reconnected the M6 and when I boot it up the console gives me the network error message and no UI IP.

From the console I tried setting the machine name from “truenas” to “BACKUPNAS”, which didn’t work. So then I also disabled DHCP and set the gateway IP (opnsense machine at 192.168.1.3) and nameserver IP (1.1.1.1) and gave the machine a static “alias” (192.168.1.6). Still no luck. The static IP I setup is what is displayed in the console but I cannot access it from any machine on the network.

Please educate me about my errors here. Thanks

When you connect the other system back to the network, does it work?

To me this sounds more like a network issue (like a broken patch cable).

Got a similar problem some time ago, don’t know if can help, but in my case the conflict was generated by the previously static DHCP entry in the router assigned to the old system (the test Nas in your case).

The backupnas machine will not list an IP at the console screen if I don’t go into the console and assign one manually. I even tried reinstalling 24.10 over the previous 24.04, same result.

I agree it sounds like a network issue but I am struggling to identify it.

I figured it out. Simple fix with disconnected switch that shouldn’t have been disconnected. Thanks!
