[Accepted to Roadmap] Ransomware & Malicious Activity Detection

Agreed. In my experience it’s also CapEx Vs OpEx model finance. Most organisations prefer the CapEx model as they love their 5 year plans and OpEx can quickly become uncontrollable. As my boss says it’s like 70’s flares they’ll come back into fashion again soon.

So they say.. the attackers encrypt the backups first. It’s been over 10 years since I’ve been in a corporate technology strategist position, so I’m not keen on the latest and greatest, but even back then there’s no away some hacktard is getting access to my backups first. That’s the whole point of them, they exist, they are redundant, encrypted, hardened from access, and may cost some downtime but are quickly deployable in a catastrophic event. All of this talk is moot if you’re not poised to respond effectively. I see a whole job market that should be open and high paying to keep eyes on these aspects of a business. And I mean targeted positions.. you wake up, sip coffee, and do nothing but make sure the data is safe and up to date, not some poor kid or vet who’s split into 15 different roles because the rest of the company is too dumb or cheap.
