Hi,
Right now my TrueNAS Scale runs headless without any gpu. Thats good, but I have only 1 PCI port left and I want to add GPU to passthrou it to VM, is this possible? Right now, first GPU Scale always reserves for itselt.
No, as far as i know it’s not possible with just 1 gpu, you need 2 gpus to be able to isolate one for vm usage. The other one can be in integrated igpu, but you need 2 gpus.
If you only have one you can select it from the drop down menu but can’t save it.
I think I remember that one point in time with Scale I had only one GPU passthrough to VM. Maybe it was possible so you insert 2 gpu’s to system, reserve one for VM and then take scale reserved out. Im not 100% sure, but I think I had it
Is this feature coming to TrueNAS scale or should I move TNS to proxmox and then I should be able to passthrough it to vm?
It hasn’t been implemented in 4 years, so I wouldn’t hold my breath…
I found this post while searching for related information, and my situation is similar to yours. PCI slots are very valuable, and most people use TrueNAS because of ZFS, while most CPUs that support ECC don’t have integrated graphics. This approach of not allowing isolation of a GPU is hard not to consider a very terrible choice.
Actually my truenas scale now works with only 1 gpu reserved for VM. I dont know if it’s a bug or feature, but it is possible
It might be a bug.Yesterday i tried to built a vm and passthrough my gpu,my NAS showed the same error message as in your post.
