Anybody has a guide on installing Truenas on my WD PR4100?

I’ve been reading here and there and apparently there are people out there who has successfully managed to install and run truenas properly on a WD PR4100. I upgraded mine to 16gb of ram and honestly, the native OS is so… limited. I don’t want to build a computer to perform as a NAS as this one serves me well.

Hi,

I’ve been running into this same issue. Cumulatively spent several hours trying to understand full sequence from bits and pieces across resources, but still having no luck. Were you able to figure this out in the meantime on your own?

Or if anyone else reads this who knows the solution, please let us know.

What are the specifications of this? I’d be surprised if it were based on an x86 CPU rather than an ARM CPU.

Intel Pentium N3710 processor and 4GB of RAM

Anyways, assuming that hardware requirements are met (we upgraded RAM to 16 GB), what are the next steps?

Probably a lot of googling and reading different resources, piecing together the way to do it.

There is good information in the forums on what recommended hardware looks like. When you choose to use something else you need to be prepared to fill in the blanks yourself.

what i found was some sort of intel N-processor and 4gb ram, upgradable to 16gb

I understand, but I’m personally coming from the position that I have already done so, but I’m still left with glaring holes in my understanding for which I hope people with personal experience or general knowledge can help with.

Hence, why I’m asking for precise help.

I found a 2 year old reddit post in german that said, it’s possible to install both core or scale on it and it shouldn’t be a different install process like for any other hardware. So use rufus/etcher to write the iso to a usb stick, start the PR4100 and start the install process.

Did you check the old forums? I even found a link to an old WD forum that worked.

It seems it is pretty much the normal install procedure, you just cannot install directly on the DW PR4100, but on a USB disk attached to a different PC, which you then attach to your WD PR4100 and hope that it boots from that.

prez02, can you please send the link to that specific thread or post or whatever you are referring to?

Can you please send the link to that as well?
