Anyone using Intel NICs?

That’s a normal temperature. 46* C is more than 20 degrees below the allowable limit. They are built for these conditions, otherwise there would not be such a robust market for used transceivers that go on to live many more happy years in complete obscurity.

Move on.

Will have to test it tomorrow with transfers and then check how it goes

Cool cool. I’m just new to all these so bit concerned. Will get the genuine modules with the validation label. Thank you for explaining it well

You very likely don’t need SRX optics
SR and SRX optics are interoperable.
You are correct that the SRX optics are for higher temperature ranges.

They’re mainly used for non-server room environments or when you have a chassis that is fully loaded with heat generating optics (like 24+ of them) because they can run hotter than the switch chassis is designed to push air.

If you are connecting you’re Server directly into your Microtik CRS, you could save yourself some money and just purchase some DAC or AOC 10Gbps cables.

These are pre-terminated 10G SFP+ cables that are typically half the price of SR SFP combinations with patch cabling. You can usually source second hand DAC cables very cheaply and they are typically reliable. AOC second hand, you need go be a careful as they may have been folded beyond their suitable bend radius and the fibre damaged.

DAC is also cheaper to operate as they require less power than an optical cable/module. For a home lab, this is important as optics are good at turning power and $ into heat you don’t need.

Yes, will go with that. Thank you for explaining it!

As a side note, I totally believed this to be over :open_mouth:

It is
