Ref (October 2024): Proxmox Add ZFS over iSCSI parameters with iSCSI served from truenas scale
Feature Request (November 2024): Add LIO or IET iSCSI target compatibility to SCALE so Proxmox "ZFS over ISCSI" can work natively
Hello! I’m a Proxmox user who would like to be able to use TrueNAS as an iSCSI target via Proxmox’s “ZFS over iSCSI” feature. As well documented above, that is not presently working as TrueNAS and Proxmox do not speak a common iSCSI language yet. Or, as phrased in the feature request: “SCALE doesn’t implement LIO or IET which are required by Proxmox. Storage: ZFS over ISCSI - Proxmox VE”
The third party project linked by @HoneyBadger in the first ref link appears to be a bit dead, unfortunately.
From reviewing the conversation in the feature request, it does not appear that SCALE/CE implementing LIO or IET is practicable at this time. It sounds like such a major change that it would be like ripping out all the plumbing lines from a fully completed housing development that has lots with houses on them.
I’d like to open a feature request on the Proxmox side. What feature(s) should I ask for? SCST support? SCST support and additionally some other support feature(s)?
I’m not familiar enough with how iSCSI works under the hood to even start to guess why PVE only implements the iSCSI protocols (is that the right word?) that it does versus PVE implementing the ones that it does, so I don’t yet feel comfortable trying to open a feature request for PVE until I’ve learned more.
Thanks for your help!
