FreeFileSync will do what you want, I use it do what you are describing that you want, you can set a job through windows scheduler to copy a drive one way or mirror it. It also has a RealTimeSync that I haven’t tried but it watches a folder for changes and then runs a command to do what you want.
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for the suggestions and advice.
These past few weeks have been quite busy for me, so I haven’t had the time to properly test all the options that were mentioned. I still plan to go through them and experiment a bit when I get the chance.
In the meantime, I really appreciate everyone taking the time to reply and share their experience. It’s been very helpful while I’m learning all this.
Thanks again!
i use syncback for that.
I use Macrium Reflect X on several computers and successfully restored an image. I’ve also restored files on several occasions. I set up Grandfather, Father and Son template that creates a full image on the first Monday of each month, Differential images on other Mondays and Incremental images on other weekdays.
For “as-is” mirroring, Good Sync and Gs Richcopy360 are excellent for handling long path names and system attributes, offer a very user-friendly interface for automated, block-level synchronization. Both work perfectly for your goal.
Hi, @The_rubiks, what have you settled with?
I’m also searching for the same thing. Don’t you think NextCloud would work on your intended use (except the SMB part)? Just asking because being new to this, I’m not sure if I should stick with NextCloud or switch over to SMB. Only complaints about the NextCloud were the initially slow transfer speed and not being directly accessible thru file explorer (which what SMB share does).
I’m using DriveSnapshot:
Not free, but very affordable. Very small tool, no installation needed, can be scripted, backup runs while Windows is running, can also backup open Exchange databases, SQL server databases etc. You can mount you backups and browse them in File Explorer.
No problems in the last 9 years.
There’s also mounting a zvol via iSCSI, and creating a Windows Storage Spaces mirror pairing the local disk with the remote iSCSI volume.
