Boot hangs after "[drn] VCE is enabled in VM mode"

My friend’s machine; I will get more details, if needed. For now, the motherboard is “B150 Gaming M3 MS-7978”.

It was successfully running Core. Upgraded to SCALE 24.04.2 and applied the previously-saved config, which seemed to work fine. At some point, he could not reach the GUI, so re-booted. It goes through the boot process (I do not see any errors) and then stops after the following lines:

[drn] UVD is enabled in VM mode
[drn] UVD ENC is enabled in VM mode
[drn] VCE enabled in VM mode

I was starting to look into VM-related topics and then realized it is probably the next step after the last line … and I do not know what that is. I have been trying to find a boot log in order to see what might have happened.

Strange that it was working and now is not. As far as I know, nothing has changed; same hardware. We also tried installing 23.10.2. The install looks successful but the boot hangs at the same point.

Can someone point me to a log which may provide more info? Thanks!
