So I set up Trunas yesterday and starting learning the ropes, excitedly spent all night last night playing around and learning, this morning I checked the system and had a report saying my internal SSD was Degraded, it came with the little Optiplex i turned into a small truenas machine to start learning some stuff about this realm and store data. I pulled the SSD out and put one in I had around the house and it says its too small to replace it, can I at least remove the degraded SSD from my boot pool to stop error message?
im learning that this is actually the main practice haha do i need to reinstall with only the m.2 as the boot drive in order to get rid of the old one from my system?
Thank you for this info! after further consideration I think it’d be better to reinstall using smaller internal SSD and use M.2 as a cache drive. This system is general is for me to have a small network storage for now and be able to learn and play before upgrading later, I appreciate everybody’s time in this! I’m so glad this community helps eachother out !
For anyone in a similar predicament, I suggest taking the time to unplug your hdds if using Dell Data Wipe, it will make the process much faster for wiping the SSDs, you live and you learn, ill wait ! lol Again thank you to everyone who took the time to reply to my post, true MVPs!
I would start without any “cache” drives. Most of the time this offers enough performance already and most of the time it will do more harm than good (when configured wrong and misunderstood).
