hello,
I am new here and need some help.
I setup all the pools/storage on server via web interface, but when I do CMD K and try to connect, it says something went wrong. I used the @userid in the URL, it asks for PW, I enter it, and get same message. I made sure PW is same on TrueNas. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Did you also set up the SMB sharing?
Did you also setup a SMB or NFS share? (Apple recommends you use SMB).
Also unrelated to your file share question but still relevant: If this is a new install, you may save yourself a lot of future headache if you just swap to TrueNAS SCALE instead of CORE.
CORE is being phased out and is not scheduled to receive any further feature updates.
Hello!
Yes I did setup SMB.
I also tried to remote connect on windows and was not able to.
I enter this into the “Connect to Server” window:
smb://mydomainname.tld
The first time it asked me for a username and password, after that it was stored in the Keychain.
I then get a popup asking which share I want to connect to.
You can optionally add the share name to the address like so:
smb://mydomainname.tld/sharename
On the Windows side you would instead use:
\\mydomainname.tld\sharename
Please note the backslashes.
As a troubleshooting step you can try replacing the domain name with the IP of your server to see if that makes any difference.
If none of this works, your issue is likely a misconfigured TrueNAS server. Possibly a permission issue. For someone here to help you troubleshoot that you need to explain how you configured it.
I’ll try these steps and report back.
OK. I found the issue, it was indeed in the SMB share settings. Thank you for the help! Is the version of TrueNas you mentioned earlier free?
Good to hear that.
Yes, TrueNAS SCALE is also free:
It’s also worth knowing that they are about to rename it the “TrueNAS Community Edition”, just in case you start seeing that name later this spring.
