Can't install TrueNas in new system - CSM nightmare

Or 8x4x4 adapter if you want a PCIe card + 3 m.2s.

This is why I love this product, it’s very flexible in this part for what you have. :innocent:

That won’t work with a Jonsbo N1, which only has a half-height slot.
But indeed 10 year-young X10SDV boards have many possibilities.

Jonsbo N3 is way better imho, way more flexible.

Most of the decissions on hardware were highly constrained by availability and price, along with the need for a very small system. It was particularly hard getting a case, tried Aliexpress but it let me down several times.

For now, I’ll have 5 HDD and 2 m.2 nvme + separate SSD for boot pool. Think I can fit an additional 1 to 3 SSD, maybe one for mirroring the pool (3 wouldn’t be that easy).

Think for now I definitely don’t need more than 5 HDD. Better upgrade networking next.

Hey man,

I know it’s been a while, but just wanting to follow up on this : are things still working out ok? I just got myself a B660M Pro RS that I tried installing TrueNAS on, and got the exact same result you’re describing; and Google led me here.

I’m still in the return window for the board and I might ultimately decide to do just that; but I do have an ooooold 5450 GPU that I could just to enable CSM so I can finally complete my install.

That particular board was good for my needs due to the Intel NIC, ddr4 compatibility, and the extra PCIe x16 slot (running at x4, which is still plenty for a four port HBA card).

But yeah - I’ll have to make a call soon I guess. Too bad I can’t use m.2 any better… Even if I used two Intel Optane drives as boot, I’m still short two SATA ports for my six disks in the pool so HBA it is one way or another.
