Connectivity and control with a TrueNAS device without network

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some help with my first TrueNAS system. (Or future first system) I’m a real estate photographer/videographer and a college student living in campus dorms. I’m completely out of storage and looking to build a NAS. Unfortunately in my college dorms, I have no access to an ethernet port to plug my switch in, let alone, even if I did, the network is so locked down that connecting to it would be virtually impossible. I was wondering if there was an easy way to connect and control the TrueNAS device and still be able to use the dorm’s internet on the connected device. I know that you can use a direct connection through the ethernet ports on the two devices, but I’m not sure how that works and am not sure if I’d be able to do any configuration without a small network setup. I have the stuff to set up a small network, but I’m worried that if I set up my small Linksys router and connect my PC/NAS to it, it will try and use that as the primary network device and I won’t be able to browse the internet when connected. (I’m dumb when it comes to networking so be nice if I’m completely wrong) As I said, this will be my first ever NAS build and I want to ensure that everything will work before I go and spend the money and build it. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Also, I’d like to add a link to, or screenshots of my parts list for my NAS, but the forum won’t let me, so if anyone knows how to do that too, let me know lol
