Create STRIPE and MIRROR pool

Hi,
i’ve a pool named DATA formed by one 4TB WD RED, i want to create a simil RAID 10.
I will add a new vdev 4TB WD RED to create a stripe of 2 disk and a total of 8TB Pool.
After this i want add another 2 disk 4TB each in stripe mode and expand with other 8TB STRIPE.

Is this possible ? New POOL will be 8TB “raid 10” ? correct ??
Thank you in advice

No

You cannot mirror a stripe (of more than 1 disc).

You can do 4 Discs in a 2-wide mirror + 2 wide mirror config.

Thank you for your reply

I dont undestand this : You can do 4 Discs in a 2-wide mirror + 2 wide mirror config.

What do you mean ? i dont want destroy my original pool. I have only 800GB left of 4TB.

You can add a second 4 TB drive as a mirror (NOT Stripe) to your vdev, to give you the same amount of space, but with redundancy. Then add another vdev, with 2 extra drives as another mirror to your pool. This will then give you 8 TB of total space.

Now: 4 TB
Step one: 4 TB — 4 TB Mirror (Total space stays the same)
Step two: 4 TB — 4 TB Mirror + 4 TB — 4 TB Mirror (Total Space 8 TB)

So you need 3 new drives.

exact!! This is what i want do…

Pratically :

Now: 4 TB
Step one: 4 TB — 4 TB Mirror (Total space stays the same) → EXPAND WITH NEW 4TB
Step two: 4 TB — 4 TB Mirror + 4 TB — 4 TB Mirror (Total Space 8 TB) → ADD VDEV SELECTING 2 NEW 4TB DISK

SURE ??

THANK YOUU A LOT

First you “extend” your existing VDev with another disk (stripe to mirror)

Then you “Add a VDev” and add two disks forming another mirror.

Now you have a pool which consists of two mirrors.

The data that is written afterwards will effectively be striped across both mirrors.
