Duplicate files on TrueNAS

What would be the most effective tool to search for duplicate files on TrueNAS? Any apps that do this?

Czkawka

You can either run it from your desktop (over SMB), which provides a user-friendly GUI and supports comparing image files visually.

Or you can install it as an “app” (or in a “sandbox”), with the caveat that it will be a command-line tool, which is harder to compare and go through long lists in the results.[1]

EDIT: For the record, I use the GUI version of Czkawka from my Linux desktop over SMB shares. Believe me when I say you’ll feel much better with some manual intervention to look through the list, and even open up some files. (Double-clicking a result in the list will open the file. Double-clicking with the right mouse button will open its directory.)

The GUI also has the benefit of image previews (on the right side panel), without having to open any files.

  1. I would not feel comfortable to automatically remove duplicates without actually going through the results myself. ↩︎

Ahem. Dockge

Don’t get me started on developers naming their own software… :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I’ll just leave this and this here.

FWIW, I think chkawker is worse than dockage. Dockage at least starts with “dock”

Awesome app!

To each his own…
I find it easier to figure out how to prononce “czkawka” than how to pronounce “dockge”. (‘kg’? as in “Kgalagadi”?)
And don’t get me started on “nginx” or “xcp-ng”.

Does the ng in the names signify angular?

I have quick tested Dupeguru too for a couples of folder. Same suggestion here, manual interventions are always raccomended, but seems kinda accurate on duplicate detection

Never let developers name their own software.

Ask a friend or a five year old next time, and they’ll come up with a better name.
