FAILED SMART self-check. BACK UP DATA NOW but SMART Ok?

Hello All

My Truenas Scale server is reporting 2 drives under the Alerts menu with the following:

FAILED SMART self-check. BACK UP DATA NOW!.

The curious part is SMART logs not showing any apparent issues unless im reading the information incorrectly? Should i be concerned about this drive?

The output you posted does not look like the drive that is failing.
Could it be that you restarted since the message was generated, resulting in it warning you about a drive that has a different device id this time around?

You should check the smart report of all your drives.

I though the same and re-tried thats why im confused the alert says:

Critical Device: /dev/sdr [SAT], FAILED SMART self-check. BACK UP DATA NOW!

SMART says:

What version of Scale are you using?
You also should be providing the output of smartctl -x /dev/sdr so we have all the SMART data.
Since it looks like you have many drives, check them all for indication of failure.
Post the output of zpool status as well. Let’s do it all at once.

Follow up: Your message above is not complete. You are missing the next line of text which tells you the exact problem. I would have included this in my previous post but I hate using a smartphone to type messages, especially technical data, that pesky autocorrect gets me all the time.

Thats the message that shows in the Alert menu at the top right of the GUI nothing else shows up, also SMART test result GUI didnt show anything

Analysis of the data provided:
The drive maximum temperature reached 60C. That is hot. It could be a contributing factor but nothing indicates that.

You have not run any SMART Long tests. This is quite important as a Long test does a complete surface scan. Recommend you run a Long test on all your drives.

It appears that all your error messages were at Power On Hour time 14004 (about 10 days ago) so this does not line up with the error message date/time. I don’t know if you have a removable drive or were possibly moving cables, or moving the computer but something happened at that time to make the system think the drive was not responding.

Are you powering on/off or rebooting the system? Specifically since 2 April?

This drive S/N: X090A012FDBG does not look like anything is wrong with it.

Highly recommend you examine all the drives in your system but this drive looks fine.

Good Luck
