Hi, I’am on a fresh installed Truenas Community Edition ver 25.04.1.
I’d like to improve fault tolerance, which is why I’m trying to set up a link aggregation failover. Unfortunately, when attempting to create a new interface, I cannot select any of the existing physical interfaces, as the list appears empty.
My current and operational interfaces are configured: one has a static IP address, while the other obtains its address via DHCP. At the moment, I can successfully communicate with TrueNAS using both network cards (through both IP addresses).
You need a “blank” unconfigured network interface for a new member of a bond interface. So remove either the static IP address or the DHCP option to start with one of your cards. Then, once the failover link is up and has an IP address unconfigure the second one and join it to the bond.
Yes, tested and saved. Have tried with DHCP enabled and disabled. Restarted twice.
Still no interfaces on list. Maybe there is some way to factory reset interfaces settings? I could mess up something on first boot (right after installation) on console…
Since it was a fresh install and I hadn’t configured many settings yet, I was able to reset the entire configuration without any consequences (System → General Settings → Manage Configuration → Reset to Defaults). After that, I was able to add the LAG. Interestingly, after the reset, both interfaces had DHCP and IPv6 Autoconfiguration enabled, which wasn’t possible before.
However, testing has shown that failover is not functioning correctly. “eno1” is the active interface, and when I unplug it, all network traffic stops. I can no longer reach the TrueNAS server. “eno2” doesn’t switch to active, even though I can see link status changes in the console.
