Hanging process lead to not being able to mount pool. Attempting import = I/O error

I have a NAS with 5 6TB drives and had one fail. I replaced the drive, resilvered, and had no issues for several weeks after that. At some point, a process was hanging on TrueNAS, and after restarting, the pool would no longer mount. When looking up the drive with zpool import, it shows the partitions as all online

Since it’s online, I tried to get the status with zpool status, however it says no such pool exists

I’m not sure what the root cause is or why it happened all of a sudden, just trying to fix it without losing the data.
Any help would be very appreciated.

You can probably force the import, someone more knowledgeable in the exact commands will probably give you some pointers.

In the meantime:

  1. List your hardware in detail, especially if you are using an HBA
  2. Can you show us the latest smart results? Maybe another drive failed.
  3. do you have backups?

One of my drives does have a failure on it. All the others have success all the way down.

  1. For some of it but not all of it. It is RaidZ1.

RAID is not a backup though.

Use smartctl -a /dev/adaX for all your member disks of the pool. What you have shown is just the list of previous tests for the same drive, ada3. I think the history is kept per drive and when you replace it it will not display the older results in the GUI or at least I hope so. So if ada3 is currently a member of your pool that’s a good candidate for a drive that may has a failure.

I’m on mobile, currently I don’t have the time to go in depth here.

What I saw when glancing at the results, there are some drives that had a smart test at 22h lifetime and then again at over 10k h Lifetime.

How regular are doing these tests? Some haven’t seen a test after 22h.

Can you perform long tests on all drives

Other than waiting for someone to provide details on a forced import I would do the smart tests in the hopes that neither or only one drive actually has another failure. Then you could hopefully just replace that drive and be back to normal.
