For example, if this is a file server-only application then this CPU is likely nuts. So, what is your use case and what about the hardware you want to use for the pool?
Good point — this won’t be just a file server. My HL15 (TrueNAS CE) already handles the main ZFS pools, but I’m building this system for mixed workloads: VM hosting, Docker stacks (Tdarr, Immich, Nextcloud, etc.), and GPU-accelerated transcoding.
I also want to expand storage with several 4 TB NVMe drives for high-speed pools and caching — and most boards choke on lanes before you can really scale that. The TRX50-SAGE gives me the PCIe 5.0 slots and ECC DDR5 support to keep everything running at full bandwidth. Basically, I’m aiming for a workstation-class NAS that can double as a compute and AI node without hitting I/O limits.
