Hello. I'm new to TrueNAS.

I’m trying to learn about servers and I’m new to TrueNAS.

Can you recommend me a newbie guide?

Thank you.

But of course, welcome!
Off the top of my head I recommend you take a look at the Resources-section to the left.
Thank you.

should cover the basics.

I am also looking for noob advice. In Resources, I see Uncle Fester’s guide, but it’s a bit outdated.

I’d found this thread in the old community (won’t allow me to post the domain), but no continuation of the discussion over here: /community/threads/what-is-the-future-of-truenas-core.116049/

This pertains to my question. I’m interested in a FreeBSD-based solution. I’m a CS student and would be interested in contributing to the project (with limited ability at this point). Is there any continuation of this discussion over here on this? I can’t find it.

Fester’s Guide is as current as it gets with respect to CORE, which is a dead-end OS.

Perhaps someone else can answer that, I don’t use CORE and am not married to the idea that the underpinnings should be based on FreeBSD.

The OP tagged this topic with CORE but hasn’t elaborated on why or what their goal is.

Well yeah, that’s kinda my reason for the question. Since CORE is dead-end, and SCALE is linux-based, where is the current discussion currently as to FreeBSD based open source NAS OS development? I saw that thread on the old server, but can’t find any continuation of the discussion here or elsewhere.

Currently? Probably on the XigmaNAS channels. I’ve heard some talk of forking CORE, and it’s open-source, so that’s an option, but I’m not aware of anyone currently taking that path.

There’s no reason you can’t start the thread here if you think there’s more to discuss.
