Help! Can't find the entirety of my disks when trying to raid inside TN!

Hey guys! I’m trying to setup TN Core in a old machine (Dell T710), hardware raid setup in bios (Raid 5), after installing, I can’t see any disks…any ideas?

TrueNAS Core v.13.0 U6.2

Disks:
2 x 600GB
4 x 300GB
Expected disk space: 1.3TB

Zpool Config: RaidZ1

Edited.

How many disks? Raid what? How much disk space are you expecting to see?

Zpool configuration?

Disks:

  • 2 x 600GB
  • 4 x 300GB
  • We’re gonna use Raid5
  • Expected disk space: 1.3TB

Zpool Config: RaidZ1

How much space are you seeing? ~1.3TB sounds about right.

that’s from the computation lol…but I just can’t see any disks (outside from that 1 pool)

Welcome to the forums!

Why would you expect to see any other disks than those in your pool(s)? Do you have other disks in the machine that you did not assign to pools?

You don’t mention your TrueNAS version so I don’t know if you have Shell to access the command line, or if you need to SSH in - but the output of zpool status -v would be useful to understand what you are experiencing.

Oh sorry I forgot. Got the latest TN Core v.13.0 U6.2

OK, so you have Shell.

Please go there and run zpool status -v. Post a screenshot of the full output.

OK will post it later since I reformatted the entire system lol and edited my question/post.

With that edited question, any ideas?

Hmmm…
I don’t see any edits except the word “Edited”

hi sir redcoat after issuing zpool status -v . this is the result

Hardware RAID is not supported on ZFS: how are you connecting the drives?

Output of zpool import please?

Edited the whole question/query…sorry about that.

Welcome to the community.

You do not see your disks because you’ve set up RAID5 in BIOS. This defeats the purpose and removes the benefits of using ZFS/TrueNAS. I checked the Dell T710 specs and see there are a few possible options for the RAID hardware.

In the end, you want TrueNAS to have direct access to the disks with nothing (RAID) between. This is typically accomplished by either using the onboard SATA or the HBA/RAID hardware in “IT Mode.” Once you know what hardware is in your system, someone can help you set it properly.

For now, find out which “PERC” hardware is in that system and let us know.
