How to login to console as root

I am trying to log into my TrueNAS console using putty on a Windows 11 PC. When I put in the user-name root, I do not even get to put in as password and I get a Fatal Error: no support authentification methods available (server sent: publickey). I have the root user set with a group called ssh. Please help me and tell me what I need to do.

Configure the SSH service on TrueNAS to allow root logins would be my first guess.
